CSS IE Hacks?

I've been trying to find a few sites that have a comprehensive list of CSS box model hacks to make IE behave. I'm fairly new (6 months) to CSS and am noticing that IE treats things like padding fairly different than FF. I've also noticed that the indenting of unordered lists is wonky. Are there a set of hacks available that will bring this in check? It is very frustrating.

Good question! Two sites that seem useful are http://positioniseverything.net/explorer... and http://css.nu/pointers/bugs-ie.html - they both seem to have good descriptions and workarounds.

Is anyone having trouble with IE 7 after updating to YM 8?

I was having trouble with IE premature closings, and lockup when I tried to close IE. By disabling "Yahoo IE Service Button"; "Yahoo IE Suggest" ; and "Yahoo Services" in the browser, (Tools; Manage Add Ons: Enable or Disable Add Ons), it resolved the problem. With any one of these add ons Enabled, I still had the same problem. Hope this info may help if any experience the same/or other problems.

This happened to me and just reinstalling isnt goin to make all of it work properly ...you need to turn off your firewall , redownload the yahoo messenger..once download is complete sign in to your messenger and then turn your firewall back on. The firewall is blocking crucial files yahoo needs to download to work properly. You have to sign in once to yahoo right before turning firewall back on so that the firewall will allow all of yahoo to have the access it needs to run properly hope this saves you time and sanity

I didn't care for Windows Defender too much. If you're looking for some anti spyware I would suggest some of these. This is a list I have compiled of what I feel are the best free-anti-spyware/anti-malware downloads. When I use them together on my system it does an excellent job in keeping it clean.

Microsoft developed anti-spyware several years ago after Bill Gates discovered spyware on his computer.

It is called Windows Defender and it is free.

I once had a anti-spyware link (such as yours) attach itself to my IE program under "tools". It didn't do any harm but I could not get rid of it, even after deleting IE and reinstalling it.
IE antispyware itself is spyware

Run your anti-spyware in Safe Mode.If you dont have an excellent anti-spyware or your current anti-spyware can't prevent spyware from Invading you computer, download a better one.

There are top 5 anti-spywares reviews, comparisons and download links on

You can download and scan your computer for free.

As the computer is booting press your "F8 Key" repeatly which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" . Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

After into safe mode, run an anti-spyware to remove the spyware and adware on you computer.

Make sure you have 1 or 2 antispyware on your computer and 1 antivirus and also 1 firewall.

GOOD LUCK!

Launch Firefox using IE Tab... any way?

Hey, I use Firefox 2, and I have IE Tab installed on it... instead of using bookmarks I use shortcuts that launch the firefox executable with the syntax as the URL

e.g.

firefox.exe http://thedomain.com

However, is there a way of getting firefox to launch it using the IE Tab automatically? Some sites are picky and want only the Trident (IE Engine).

Any ideas let me know

I dont think the IE Tab extension supports that feature!

IE 6 still has search button (a magnifier), IE 7 does not have it, how do I get it back ?

In old IE 6, it has a search button on top, when you click it, it brings you 2 windows, left shows the search engine you selected, right shows the result of your click on the left. Now, this feature is gone in IE 7, how to get it back ?

Microsoft IE?

Let's assume that I have an IE explorer open. When I open another explorer window and go to google (or any site) and start typing in my query, then the first window will come up, unless it is minimized on the toolbar. Has anybody experienced this before ? I notice this does not happen with Mozilla. Is this a bug in IE explorer ?

Microsoft IE?windows messenger

its IE thats doing this. Hex Variables used in many versions of windows that were released without the new verion of windows have a tenticy to confuse header requests with other windows, bringing them up if the are in the cache, like when they are open. Once they are in the RAM (minimised) this problem wont happen. Other browsers that are written in Visual Basic, like maxthon will have this problem as well, but if it [the browser] made out of a different language or configures the headers differently, then it will work fine. Mozilla is written in c++

None of my other browsers on my machine (Vista box) exhibit these same behaviors. Someone suggested I take off google toolbar but in two other machines I have (an XP and yet another Vista machine) I have google toolbar and my IE 7 works just fine. I don't have any viruses or spyware that I know of because this machine has Norton and I scan regularly. I don't think it's sys resoures as I have 3GB RAM %26amp; Intel quad core @2.4GHz. Why is my IE 7 Browser seeing the CSS Box Model as "subtractive" rather than "additiv

I know there was a bug in IE up til version 5 that incorrectly included padding in the width and height. but it was apparently fixed in IE 6 and 7. FireFox And IE?

I'm not asking which is better. I'm just seeing who agrees with my point.

People say IE lacks in features, and that mozilla firefox doesn't, but really those people aren't up to date. Using IE 6 still!

IE has most of the things they say it doesn't!

http://www.xulplanet.com/ndeakin/arts/re...

So from a non developer point of view, IE 7 is just almost good as FireFox.

I actually prefer FireFox, because of about:config.

People always aggro about the most used systems, or most used anythings!

The people who complain about windows are too dumb to know how to use it, none the less linux!(Linux is much more complicated than windows.Only used by 3.3%)

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browse...

I think its simple, people need to get their facts straight before they bash MS, IE7, WMP, etc.

What do you think? Agree, disagree?

Don't flame.

I'm on Ubuntu Linux with kde, Firefox, Wine installed, and everything completely set up.

FireFox And IE?microsoft xp

need to agree. Ie is updated and is secured too.Firefox actually loading slow on me.I like Ie because it loads up fast the only prob i get with ie is that it crashes me sometimes but that could also be my system.Thats why i made my own client http://browser.yahworld.com .Firefox is good with linux but same problem with the loading. I still would say Firefox is a bit better. So my rate is from 1 - 10 FIREFOX:8 IE7.xx:7.5 ! - Fact for me is there is no super browser out there. Learn to use it and you will love it . See ya

FireFox And IE?download windows xp internet explorer

Well I see things this way. IE 6 is so old that is it useless. IE 7.0 is so unstable that it is useless. FF runs but has interface issues and doesn't render certain bits of CSS properly. Opera is stable, fast, secure, and renders according to the W3C standards so it works PROPERLY!!!!.

Opera for me works great even on a machine with insufficient memory to run windows properly half the time.
I am a fan of FireFox, it is the only thing I will use. I don't like IE v6 or v. They have done a lot of upgrades to IE v7 but I still think it doesn't compare to FireFox.

Windows is falling apart specially since VISTA came out, they are trying to push people to spending a lot of money on WINDOWS products. So but, of course WINDOWS is going to get trashed.
You know they say you judge a book by its cover. Bashing Linux or Bashing Windows is senseless. Both operating systems have their good points and bad points. I've already converted three computers back to windows xp because of the windows vista downfall and people don't like it.

I use Fire Fox by choice because it is faster and doesn't stall out when loading up web pages. Anything made by Microsoft I don't trust, not to be spying on the user. I only have a windows computer to do things Linux woun't do because of lack of comparable software

Mozilla and IE problem, help ASAP please?

Ok. I use a laptop, and a wireless router that is connected to our desktop and our DSL.

I am connected to the internet, however Mozilla Firefox and IE will not connect to any websites, firefox only comes up blank no matter what site I go to and regardless of its address or an IP address. IE says cannot connect. However, AIM and Limewire and things like that work just fine.

The desktop has the internet and Firefox and IE are working, but not on my laptop.

Even when I plug the Ethernet directly to my laptop, the problem is the same, AIM LImewire works, but Firefox and IE will only come up blank and unable to connect.

How do I figure out what the problem is and how to fix this?

Mozilla and IE problem, help ASAP please?microsoft downloads

It is very possible that one of your other software (limewire is my guess) is hogging up all your internet speed. Try disabling limewire from starting when the computer starts and restart the computer. Try using the internet without turning on limewire.

If this is the problem, you will have to go into limewire settings and limit the speed alloted to it. I do no currently have limewire, but dig around in the settings a bit, and I'm sure you'll find it.

I have just learned that ie store info that i cant delet that i dont want it to. how do i uninstall

i have learned that with all those settings off it disables other temporary files but this one file it does not. no matter what you have set it logs everything and if you tell ie to delete history it deletes it from the ie history list but not from this log. Their is no way to disable this and you can not delete it because it is emebeded in the os and hidden in hidden folders i have found it but can only read it. i have read forums on some hacking site that use remote password and email stealling software to suck your info out of this file. I know it is not safe and i want to know if any one knows how to make it safe or disable it. What do any of you thin of this. I checked my file after i have disable all loging and history tracing in ie and deleted all private data then checked this file and it has histor from when i first installed my os. and the first sites i ever went on. i think this is ridiculous and should be taken care of this shows how dumb microsoft is.

Why is IE not picking up my Dreamweaver tables properly when adding a PayPal "Add to Cart"

There's extra tags that don't affect Firefox but in IE it's completely messing up the tables. It won't line up properly, the size of the cell is completely diferent in IE and I can't get rid of the tags because it's form tags "hidden tags" so I can't get rid of them.

What can I do to remedy this problem so my tables surrounding the "Add to Cart" button doesn't go off center, out of shape (length changes from what I have in Dreamweaver). Everything looks great in Firefox but IE is a mess.

Firefox loves Dreamweaver apparently, but considering IE is used more than anything, it's a huge concern to have those pages look great.

Why is IE not picking up my Dreamweaver tables properly when adding a PayPal "Add to Cart" button?windows xp home

Adding a PayPal Add to cart button shouldn't have anything to do with your problem (just my guess). What you're facing is a form/tables issue with IE.

IE is notorious for not conforming to HTML or CSS standards, especially IE5/Win.

When you set up your form, the best way to keep all your fields and labels neat and legible is to use a table. If your table is breaking, it may be the way it was set up. If you have set the padding of cells as well as the table width and the calculations don't add up, that can mess up the layout of your form table. Are you nesting tables? Don't.

Keep your table simple. Don't specify table or cell heights because they won't work. Try to keep the table to two columns maximum. Your PayPal button should just show up as a clickable image, nothing more. The hidden fields in your PayPal button are necessary and will not affect the size of the button or any surrounding elements on the page.

Just troubleshoot the table, not the button. Good luck.

Yahoo! Toolbar for IE and Tabs?

I recently asked how to open a standard set of websites via tabs on Yahoo! for IE and one user suggested that when Iclose Internet Explorer, Iwill be asked whether you want to close all tabs. When the prompt appears, click Show Options, select Open these the next time I use Internet Explorer, and then click Close Tabs. When I reopen Internet Explorer the tabs will be restored. Problem is when I click close, the option to "Show Options" does not appear. Also, when I click a link, is there any way I can have IE open up another tab vs. an additional IE window?

Yahoo! Toolbar for IE and Tabs?microsoft.com

To see the options menu for tabbing, go to the Tools menu, then click on "Internet Options" Under the "General" section, at the bottom, you can change your settings for tabs.

Now, as for opening webpages in different tabs instead of different windows... When you want to open a link, RIGHT-CLICK on it. Then a menu should pop up and the second option from the top is "Open in New Tab" Click on that, and the page will open in a new tab!

How to revert to IE 6 after IE 7 has been loaded?windows xp themes internet explorer

Open up control panel and in there select add/remove programs. In there toward the top right you'll see a check box that says show updates. make sure thats checked. then scroll down the list to internet explorer 7. select uninstall. it'll go back to 6 and restart your pc and you should be good.
delteing ie7 will take you strigh back to ie6 (start%26gt;mycopmuter%26gt;controll pannel%26gt;add promove PROGRAMS%26gt;delte ie7)
there's two ways I know how:

1. delete IE 7 from the control panel. then search on yahoo! or google, or anywhere, to redownload IE 6. it should replace IE7

2. I heard that if you delete IE 7 your computer should (somehow) revert back to IE 6.

I'm not sure if #2 is true, but try one of these two.
just change your bank!
You need to uninstall IE7, and it will revert back to IE6. Do this: Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and the Show updates box at the top. This will show you the latest version of everything installed on your computer. Scroll down until you find Internet Explorer 7. Remove it, and when it finishes, close Control Panel and restart your computer. It will then be back to IE6, and your banking problem should be solved.
Hi there,

If you want to get Internet Explorer 6 you will need to go to the microsoft website and in the search box type 'internet explorer 6'.

The page should come up and you will be able to download from there. If that doesn't work just keep looking through the download section till you find it, good luck!

There site is at microsoft.com
You can use this program to install previous versions of IE alongside IE7 without affecting your IE7 installation. It's free. http://tredosoft.com/IE7_standalone
You could try using System Restore to revert back to a restore point made before IE7 had been installed. I've done this today, not just because of IE7, I'm now back on IE6, but to restore a rather confused C drive ( I can't resist in messing about!). Always set a restore point before making changes or downloading stuff.

IE 7 and cleanup disk -deleting internet files?

Question # 1 I have found that Internet Explorer 7 is available for a free download at microsoft.com. How do I find what version of IE I am now running, and if I don't have IE 7 should I download IE 7 ? Question # 2 About a year ago, someone looked at this home computer (runs Windows XP Pro) and did a disk cleanup by getting rid of Temporary Internet Files.....it now shows I have 89,000 temporary internet files. How would I perform a thorough, yet safe, disk cleanup, tell it to take away ALL temporary internet files ? This is a standalone home computer. I run AVG free edition, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Windows Defender.

IE 7 and cleanup disk -deleting internet files?microsoft internet explorer

IE 7 is in the Release Candidate 1 phase. This is the final Beta phase before Final release. There are some sites and programs that will not support IE 7 as long as it is still in Beta testing. This is solved with a little (very small) program that makes those sites and programs think IE 7 is IE 6. Sounds nut, but, it works. I use it with IE 7 and it works great. I recomend you download and use IE 7. You will love it. You will have to find and learn the differences of you current IE browser.

Here is the programs to fool the ones that don't support IE 7 yet. Select the "Internet Explorer 6" link and then click OK for the next to boxes that pop up. If you install this after downloading IE 7 then restart the computer after downloading this program so it will work properly.

http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.asp...

To clean your computer do the following:

Go to Start%26gt;All Programs%26gt;Accessories%26gt;System Tools%26gt;Disk Cleanup. Run this program. Put a check in every box(even if is says it is empty) and then click OK.

Now follow the same path and select Disk Defragment%26gt;run this and defragment your hard drive.

Now do this: Exit all running programs including those in the Sysem Tray (by the clock) and including your Browser. Go to Start%26gt;Run%26gt;type: %temp%%26gt;click OK%26gt;in this window go to the menu bar to EDIT and click Select All%26gt;you should have noticed the menu expand to show the delete option. Click it and delete everything.

Here is what you should do at least once a week: Go to Tools%26gt;Internet Options%26gt;General tab (it should open on this tab)%26gt;Delete Cookies and Temp Files buttons%26gt;go to Clear Hisory button and click it. Click Apply then OK.

Once you have IE 7 and get to the General Tab then go to the Browsing History and click the delete button. Another window will open and you will then delete the Cookies, Temp Files and History.

IE 7 and cleanup disk -deleting internet files?microsoft downloads internet explorer

answer #1- open up IE click help up top-then about internet explorer. there you will find your version. no you should not download it yet. i tried it along with some of my IT buddies and its not ready for everyday use yet. there are still some bugs they need to work out. if you dont have IE6 you should get that.

answer #2-to get rid of temp internet files-open up IE click tools up top-click internet options-click delete files-it may ask you if you want to delete offline content as well choose yes. thats all there is to it. good luck
1... to find out what vrsion you are running..just click on the HELP BUTTON. and then ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER..

to get safely rid of all the temp internet files do this.%26gt;START%26gt; ALL PROGRAMMES%26gt; ACCESSORIES%26gt; SYSTEM TOOLS%26gt; DISC CLEANUP.. and click on the TEMP INTERNET FILES%26gt; ok
# 1 - To find out your current version, click Help | About Internet Explorer on the IE menu. I can't tell you whether or not to download the newest version - that's your call. However, it's a release 1 candidate so it's not quite finished yet. I generally avoid anything that's a release one or a pre-release since they tend to be buggy. I like to wait for a subsequent release as it will tend to be more stable.

# 2 - To safely delete your files (and wow, you have a lot of them) do this:

a. Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer since it also uses the Internet.

b. Access the Control Panel from the Windows start menu.

c. Once in the Control Panel you want Internet Options.

d. One the General tab, click the "Delete Files" button in the Temporary Internet Files section.

e. When prompted place a check in: "Delete all offline content", and click OK. This removes the junk files such as downloaded files, zero byte files created by Outlook Express and many other hidden files that reside in your cache.

It may take a while for all the files to delete since you have so many of them :)
well i don't know about the first question but to your 2 question right click your Internet explore icon go to properties and a window will open you will see a few icons like delete cookies, delete files etc click on them it will clear all your temp files and cookies you can even clear your history, and suggest you try to defragment you hard drive too.

click start

go to accessories

system tools

disk defragment.

there is a disk cleanup there too.

No problem, open your favorites, right click on the site, and choose open in new tab
In order to open all of your bookmarks in tabs at the same time, you need to put them all in a folder within your bookmarks. Then click the star shaped icon in the upper left to show your bookmarks. Then hover over the folder which contains the bookmarks you want to open. You should see a blue arrow appear next to the folder. Click that arrow to open all the bookmarks within that folder in tabs.

Delete button no longer works in IE E-Mail, works fine with Mozilla?

I seldom use IE for Yahoo E-Mail, I use Mozilla. However yesterday I upgraded IE to version 7.0. Since then when signing onto Yahoo E-Mail this web address would be in the tool bar: https://login.yahoo.com/config/mail?.int... with a notice saying:

'If you are seeing this page, your browser settings prevent you from automatically redirecting to a new URL.

Please click here to continue.'

This never occurs with Mozilla. After pressing 'click here' in IE the mail page comes up, but the delete button for E-Mail; the 'check all' button for bulk mail; and the submit button for submitting a question no longer responded. I uninstalled and deleted IE 7.0, but problem persists in the previous version of IE, which did not have this problem before. These buttons work fine with Mozilla. Is there a way to contact Yahoo via E-Mail about this?

Why bother at all with putting band-aids on to repair IE? Just delete it and stick with Mozilla.

Why doesnt IE work with the
code?

It works in firefox but not in IE, is there another code that works for ie thats not %26lt;BR%26gt; or that works for both?

Why doesnt IE work with the %26lt;BR%26gt; code?windows mail

IE supports %26lt;br%26gt;, although is almost every case %26lt;br%26gt; should be replaced with paragraphs, list items or margins.

Why doesnt IE work with the %26lt;BR%26gt; code?microsoft maps internet explorer

Try br / With the %26lt; and %26gt;. %26lt; br / %26gt; without the space before b and after /

Internet explorer is using a more strict form of HTML now.
They both support the %26lt;br%26gt; code, and it should work fine.
but it does !!!

anyways, try the %26lt;hr%26gt; or %26lt;p%26gt; tag then.....
Just use the %26lt;p%26gt; tag, for example:

%26lt;p%26gt;paragraph here%26lt;/p%26gt;

%26lt;p%26gt;paragraph here%26lt;/p%26gt;

It will show up with a line break in the middle.

Problems with IE 7?

My interenet explorer has updated itself to IE 7 (from IE 6) and now we seem to be having problems. Lots of 'error on page' and drop down menus won't work on ANY website, which is very frustrating! I have looked at previous questions related to this and many suggest resortin back to IE 6 through the 'add/remove programs' option. Sounds great, but when I go into my 'add/remove programs' there isn't 'interent explorer' of any kind me to use. Any suggestions?!

Thanks!

whats your moaning about? ie7 is by far better than firefox, quicker much more user friendly. Firstly do you know what you are doing on a pc, the are meant to be infallable, its the idiots that use them that muck them up.Have you got an ancient pc, upgrade man , get more memory do your housework on your pc as you would with a car. take time to learn more then you wont be wasting your time asking (and receiving) stupid answers!!

Problems with IE 7?windows defender internet explorerSwitch to Firefox and toss IE into the re-cycle bin. You'll be happy that you did. IE is loaded with too many holes, needs to many patches and is the prime choice for exploitation amongst mal-contents. Report It

What a brilliant dissertation by an obviously brilliant mind Taffy Comp Geek. I espicially enjoyed "the are meant to be infallable". Computers aren't infallable not by a long shot, why? BECAUSE they were made by humans! Logic is flawless, creating flawless logic is tricky. Report It

Go back to Add/Remove programs and look for Windows Internet Explorer 7.
Had similar questions, and got really frustrated.

Am now on mozilla firefox. Far better, the virus stopper thingy works and get few pop ups.
Uninstall immediately. It's just not ready or compatible with anything.

Rollback asap.

In ad remove scroll down to w's
Get Firefox! http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
If IE7 does not appear in add/remove programs check the box near the top that says show updates. This will show the IE7 uninstaller.
Go back to "Add or Remove Programs" and scroll the list. The entry is called "Windows Internet Explorer 7"
My Ie7 did that too i called the company and one thing they told me to do was the following:

1. Go to tools and select Internet Options

2. Click on the advanced tab

3. Scroll down to security and uncheck "use TLS 1.0" (i think its that one but it might be the SSL ones too)

Good Luck and u might have to restart internet explorer!

If that doesnt work just uninstall in add/remove programs, it will be under Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 i just checked.
Go to add remove programmes and scroll down....shows as Windows Internet Explorer 7, use Mozilla Firefox it is much better.
I'll bet this is the most frequently asked question on this site. Surely it has been picked up by Yahoo by now, who keep pushing it.
Cant agree more with whats already been said a few times - ditch IE and get Firefox, its so much more robust and less prone to online threats.

Then theres the extensions, the tabbed browsing, the lack of active x letting prats dump stuff on your machine without you knowing, there are many reasons why you should but GET FIREFOX!
I had same problem ,and could not find it ,so i reset computer to an earlier date, and everything is now ok.
There must be quite a few numb nuts out there, why are there so many user's finding the new IE7 such a head ache to download and use, my copy of IE7 was also downloaded with windows update's and so far it has been great, easy to use and no problems, there is very little difference between IE6 and IE7 so what is all the fuss about, it just goes to show that not every one can use a computer or understand what they are doing when sitting in front of the screen downloading software, you only have to look at some of the stupid question's on the answer's page to learn that
It may not show the first time but check to see that "show all updates" is checked.

A system restore might also work (it effect program files only - Start %26gt; Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; System Restore) Choose a date before IE6 was "updated" to IE7.

It might take a couple attempts to take.

Or... you can try something different. Firefox is awesome, so is Opera. Both are free.

I, personally, prefer Firefox.

http://getfirefox.com/

http://adblockplus.org/ (this should be your first add-on for Firefox - guess what it does ^_^)

http://opera.com/
You should stick with the updated IE7 and NOT remove it from your computer as there are quite a few programs running on your PC that rely on IE7 to work properly, some in Firefox and Opera. There are also websites that Firefox and Opera can't open that IE7 can, and vice versa. I have both Firefox and IE7 on my PC happily working with each other.
You only need to do a search on here to see how many people are having problems with IE7. The best thing to do is download Mozilla Firefox available from http://www.mozilla.com/ Its faster, more user friendly, easily customisable to suit your needs and no problems.
Lots of people seem to be having problems with it. Try removing any toolbars or addons which may be integrated in to IE7 as these may not be compatible, things such as yahoo, google toolbar etc. Also check for any adware or spyware. This may get IE7 working.

Sorry no Idea how to get back to IE6 without add/remove programs. I did once find a program that uninstalled IE after about 3 hours of searching but can't remember what it was.

Would also suggest ditching IE altogether, try firefox or opera. much better browsers which cause less problems
you can get a patch from Microsoft called a compatibility patch it fools most sites that it is IE6 most sites have failed to update and we have got to wait for internet sites to upgrade to IE7
I had a ton of problems with IE 7 when I first loaded it in. I couldn't upload files to Yahoo! mail, my browser was always freezing etc...I thought I would have to either upgrade OR use another browser so I DLed Opra 9. Mind you, Opra 9 was great, but, it wasn't working with ALL media and websites. So, what I did was a little more research and found out some of the issues that are causing IE 7 problems. I have included a link that, if you follow the steps, will cease your problems with IE7.

It includes what amount of memory to dedicate to the new browser, what settings to leave on and turn off, and even a simple fix of reinstalling and rebooting TWICE instead of once. It worked for me and for a few of my friends, it should work for you as well...

http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.htm...
I have IE7 and it's the best thing ever. all the regular sites that I use work fine.

Perhaps it's some of the sites you are using have not been updated to work properly with the new browsers.

Sites need to update themselves with technology aswell!

IE freezes when link is clicked?

I'm trying to revive an old PC, and have updated the RAM, etc. Everything works fine, but in IE I can't change pages. It just freezes when I click a link. I get the same thing pasting the link into the address bar. I remember seeing this problem once a long time ago, in a PC that someone had installed a "skin" in IE. When the skin was removed, it deleted whatever exe file handles link changes. I'm wondering if I have a missing or corrupted copy of that file. The reason I think it might be the same problem is I uninstalled the Netzero program using Add/Remove Programs. The other time I just reinstalled IE and that fixed it. I'm hoping to avoid that this time. I know there is a command you can run to extract one file from the install disk, if you know the name of the file. Any thoughts? The OS is XP Home Edition.

Cannot maximize IE from Taskbar?

Hello:

Could somebody help me to solve my problem.Whenever I open my IE, I can not maximize it. It is running on my task bar (Task manager shows that IE is running) and even when I right click and choose maximize, it will not.

I reinstalled IE 6 and it still didn't help. The way I browse now is by opening a window (like my computer) and typing the url in the address bar, or using Netscape Browser.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cannot maximize IE from Taskbar?microsoft access internet explorer

1. Right-click in the new window, click Create Shortcut, and then click OK.

2. Close the new window.

3. Open the shortcut on your desktop that you created in step one.

This procedure may open the contents of the opened window in a typical browser window that you can scroll, maximize, and resize.
You must be having some IE tool bar installed, which is malfuntioning and preventing IE from opeing up.

Goto Task Manager %26gt; Processes Tab

Click "End Process" on any of the processes looking suspicios, 1 by 1. Try running IE after each attempt. Ultimately you'll be getting it to run. Once you find out which process is causing the problem, uninstall it or untick it from the "System Configuration Utility %26gt; Start up tab" (msconfig).

That should solve your problem

Both IE and Vista suck. I used vista for just a few hours before shifting back to xp pro.

firefox has an addon that simulates internet explorer. Download that and you can view "internet explorer only" pages in firefox too.

get it from here : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...
Firefox has an explorer tab that may work for you. It is an addon and if it works, goodbye clunky, unreliable explorer.

Doodad
I also have vista (legal) wink wink. U know... the thing with interer explorer 7 is that you need to clean your temporary files more often.

Start -My Computer - Right Click on partition that vista is intalled then properties - then go to disk cleanup. - also try defragmenting.... it might help. this haas also happened to me but that was because i was runing Wayyyy to many programs and also trying to view facebook all at the same time. it is not a problem with vista nor is it a problem with IE7. If you dont have a legal version of vista then whatever you used to activate it may have caused a problem. if you need help with this, e-mail me.
This guys with the "disk clean-up" and "defragmentation" crap is on some sort of substance.

I have a new computer that was doing this very same thing. I can assure it wasnt a defragmentation problem or a resource issue. Unless your computer shouldnt be running Vista. A few things may help, one: you may want to check microsoft's knowledge based article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935544 for a registry editing fix that causes IE7 to crash, and the second thing you could do is uninstall all your IE7 add-ons like activex and reinstall them you may even want to try even reinstalling IE7.

is there a way to fix it?

IE tab with firefox 2-keeping history?ies

I don't understand what's your problem ; its a very straightforward extension

You just have to click Tools %26gt;Add-ons %26gt; Extensions %26gt; click on IE tab extension %26gt; click options . Now in the URL, enter http://sitename.com and click 'add'. now click 'ok' to close to box. From now on, always sitename.com will open with IE's engine . If you don't want to enter any URL there, then you can also click the mozilla firefox icon in the bottom right of the window to switch to the IE rendering engine for the page you're viewing after installing this extension.

Go to the IE tab's homepage to find out more: http://ietab.mozdev.org/

Don't forget to click on the 'screenshots' link on the page. It shows various options through which you can configure the IE tab extension.

i had no such problem.

i don't know why
I had no such problem..wonder why? Anyways an alternative that you could use is the MSN toolbar. You can use that with your IE 6 and it supports tabbed browsing too!!!

As everyone else pointed out IT IS A BETA, so you could wait till the full release!
I did not have that problem although that may be because I have Macromedia Flash MX 2004 the paid for version.

June attack on IE?

I've been reading in several places whispers about a coming June attack on Microcrap's IE. Funny story:

I have extremely good security on my computer. I rarely use IE; only when I absolutely have to (some sites required for my business only accept IE) otherwise, I use Firefox. I ran a scan with my SpyOnThis, and it found 70 items, most of them being in the high to extremely high threat range. I found on inspection of these 70 items that MOST of them were connected to IE/ActiveXcontrols/blah blah.

Considering that I have my cache and cookies dumped automatically every hour, run one antispyware every hour on auto, and two other programs manually about every two hours, have a very good anti-virus that scans every 24 hours (full system check), run my Crap Cleaner once a day, etc. would you say that there is an attack going on? I've never, EVER had that many high-end objects show up during a scan, and I ran IE ONCE last night.

Anyone else showing up a lot of junk on their scans?

June attack on IE?windows explorer

First, your Firefox browser isn't any safer than IE. The only reason you didn't get infections using it, is because, few people used it and the bad guys didn't waste their time and efforts on it. Now that more people are using it, they have found the weak links in it and are now infecting computers through firefox.

I use IE6, and since I learned about the different types of Malware, and how to protect my computer, I've had no infections in 5 months. Since you are being infected your protection isn't that good.

You need to get rid of the infections first. Go here and run the online scan and let it remove anything it finds and lists. Before running this download the latest version of Java here. Then remove any previous versions.

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_...

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If any infections remain then go here and follw the procedure and run the AS programs she lists.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/comm...

Here is a package that will protect your computer and is all Free!

Make sure your computer is set up for AutoUpdate for Microsoft/Windows Updates. Use Automatic Updates.

http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupd...

Firewall - If you have Windows XP with the SP2 then use the Firewall supplied with it. It is excellent. If not then use:

Zone Alarm Free version.

Anti-Virus - AVG 7.1 Free or AVAST Free. Both are excellent and better than most you pay for. Use only one AV program.

Anti-Spy - Windows Defender Beta 2, Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy, AdAware SE Personal. If you use the Yahoo Toolbar with AS, continue to use it. If not, I recommed, downloading the toolbar and using the AS. It is the eTrust Pest Patro AS program and is excellent.

The Windows Defender and Yahoo AS will be the only two AS that run all the time. Spybot and AdAware will be used for scans only.

All the AV/AS and Zone Alarm can be downloaded here.

http://www.filehippo.com/

This next program will work with your AV and AS programs and stop infections before they get a chance to install. It will find stuff already on and help remove it automatically. It will also protect against infected Email attachments. Do Not use as stand alone protection.

http://www.novatix.com/Home.aspx

This next program will alert you to sites that could or will infect you. They have tested many sites and have rated them and will give you a color warning.

http://www.siteadvisor.com/

I use an eTrust AV program and the Windows Firewall. Everything else listed here I use. No infection in 5 months.

I installed this exact package on my neighbors computer 3 months ago and he hasn't been infected. He likes to download Porn and free games.

As far as an IE attack, I think you answered the question. IE is under attack every day. My daily scans turn up about 30 new cookies.

When i save a web page, and open it offline(after disconnecting the net), the page is not opening. It is showing some error message and the saved page is not opening. There was no problem opening saved page using IE 6. Think this problem exists only in IE 7 .Need a solution for this.

Scrap IE7 and use Firefox.

Refer to your "GREEK" manual.
This problem will likely depend on the page you are saving. If it is a flat HTML file, there should be no problems saving the file in either browser.

If the site has certain elements which require live calls to the website's database (AJAX, javascript, etc), there may be problems unreleated to the browser you are using.
I had IE 7 it was always causing problems, I uninstalled it and returned to IE 6. Or use Firefox.

A difference in IE and Mozilla. IE stinks!!?

I have my own site http://www.kruxialflicks.com when I edit i preview in Mozilla and it ALWAYS look like the editing page. however when i preview with IE theres always something messed up.

For instance, go to my site www.kruxialflicks.com and look at the enter page with mozilla and IE. The mozilla version is fine but when looking with IE you see white lines. Also i have tables that are centered. In mozilla its fine, but in IE they arent centered but to the left. How can I fix all these things?

There are fundemental differences in MANY Browsers which effect the outputed pages appearance.

Learn to write Acurate html code, and these will all but dissappear.

If that's "Beyond your Effort Budget" Download an Evaluation copy of DreamWeaver. It had Cross Browser patching built in.

FYI: Internet Explorer IS a Mozilla based Browser !

I Didn't say Firefox. I Said Mozilla.

I check it out it looks great on my IE but I am runnin the IE7 beta.
There are free validators online which can analyze your website to look for problems. Some web page designs look better in Mozilla and others look better in IE.

IE wasn't based on Mozilla Firefox, it was based on a design by Mosaic, which later became Mozilla and developed the Firefox browser.

How do I get IE & to close down when I click the X button at top right.?

Our PC crashed last weekend. We had IE 7, Windows XP and we uploaded Norton Security 2008 - and boom - we lost almost everything. 24 hours later we found it all saved as a backup. (WHEW).

Now whenever I open IE7 browser, I cannot get the first window to close - it just goes to a blank page and literally freezes the computer.

All the tabs work fine and close fine, as do other pages if I open a second and third window. They all close properly.

I usually have to do a ctrl-alt-del to remove that first window, and then I get that damned blue and gray report - IE is not working - send to MS so they can help.

I always click dont send - I am not sending my personal details to MS.

How can I fix the IE browser.

And please dont tell me to use firefox or something else, I am well aware they are available, but right now IE is easier. Or at least it was.

Thanks

It's your ram that is corrupt.

It's a fairly cheap thing to replace.

The only fuss there is to select the right ram.

DDR, DDR2, DDR3, newer computers have DDR4

If it continues to crash, just hit "CTRL+ALT+DEL",

A task manager will appear. Go to "processes".

Find a process called "iexplore".

click on it, then select "end process".

It'll close down internet explorer

I'd say, go ahead and download firefox.

www.getfirefox.com

It's not easier.

It's just a learning curve.

To be honest, I'd remove Norton. It's hurts your system more than it repairs it.

Takes up too much system resources, takes up too much space and it's costs too much.

Free anti-virus are in most cases even better than lousy Norton!

reinstall (uninstall then install again)
I had this. I got it changing pages, or sometimes just opening IE. MS said it depended on the site. I had to format the hard drive and reload everything. I was told it's related to a problem with Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine. Something to do with losing their license. They originally said IE wouldn't work after December, but mine does now. Removing and reinstalling IE did me no good. I suspect the deal is the new versions of IE (both 6 and 7) have the Sun Microsystem Java, or something along those lines. It looks like MS has taken down their knowledge base documents. They were pretty good.Good Luck!

i would probably download IE7. even when microsoft claims something is still supported it often stops caring about it very quickly.

This is most likely caused by a browser "add-on" These are things that you add to your browser like toolbars.

Here is what I did to fix the problem:

Click on "tools" and then click on "manage add-ons" then select "enable or disable add-ons"

On the next screen disable ALL of your add-ons then close IE down completely. Reopen IE and then open a few websites. then try closing one. If your browser stays open then go back to your add-ons and enable them one at a time.

Note that each time you enable an add-on you will have to close your browser completely for the change to take affect.

Depending on how many add-ons you have this could take a little time but once you find the one that is causing the problem you can keep it disabled and then your browser should work fine.
Does this happen with any other applications? If so, I would not rule out the possibility that this is hardware related instead of software -- sounds like you could have a corrupted stick of RAM in your computer.

Do as the previous poster suggested and get the upgrade to IE7 -- it should replace any corrupted files and fix the issue. If it doesn't, look into your hardware.
